Gavin Canyon Undercrossing Bridge Construction Summary As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA, will be widening the existing Gavin Canyon Bridge to accommodate the new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. This bridge crosses over The Old Road, located between Calgrove Bl and Weldon Canyon Rd. Construction will take place along the outside shoulders, center median, and along The Old Road. Activities will include excavation, shoring, auger drilling for concrete foundations, form, rebar, and concrete work, soil backfill, falsework installation and removal, and bridge barrier work. Prepare for intermittent nighttime closures on The Old Rd to complete construction. This bridge extension is anticipated to be substantially completed by December 2024. Upcoming Activities in 2023 Bridge foundation work involving use of cranes and drill rigs, steel and concrete work, rebar work and concrete placement for new bridge structures, utility work, restriping of The Old Rd.
